Toronto In Summer is the stage name of Charlotte resident Charlie Austin-Zimmerman. Charlie began playing music when he was 9 and is currently 14. After taking piano lessons for many years, Charlie switched his main instrument to acoustic guitar and began writing folk songs as a hobby. At a young age he was influenced by artists such as James Taylor, Never Shout Never and Jack Johnson. These influences helped shape his sound into a hybrid of folk and acoustic pop. On stage Charlie has the confidence and showmanship of a seasoned performer. In the past few months, Charlie has recorded and produced his own first short album (or EP), called “Arts and Crafts”, and will be having a release show at The Penguin on August 17th at 8 PM. Copies of the EP will be available for $5. Regular Penguin menu prices apply.
