St. David’s Episcopal Church, 90 South Main Street, Cranbury extends an open invitation to a series of talks and devotions on Sundays and Wednesdays in Lent, at the church on “Keeping Lent: Learning Discipleship.”
Starting Sunday March 13 (8.50-9.20 am) , the series will be led jointly by The Rev. Dr. Gordon Graham and Brother John Baptist OSF.
A resident of Princeton, Dr. Graham is a Professor of Philosophy at Princeton Theological Seminary and has been an associate priest at St. David’s since September 2009. He is the author of several books on a variety of subjects in philosophy, ethics, politics, art and religion.
Brother John Baptist OSF belongs to a worldwide Franciscan community within the Anglican community, and has served St. David’s in areas of pastoral care and spiritual leadership since 1997. He is Chaplain to Enable, Hospice Chaplain with the Visiting Nurses Association of Mercer County, and Chaplain to the Committee on Ministry to the Disabled in the Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey.
On March 13 the subject is “Penitence - Reflecting on Sin and Self-Assessment,” repeated on Wednesday March 16 (10-10.30 am) for people who find this time more convenient.
The March 20 and 23 sessions will offer suggestions for a simple program of study of the “Bible, church doctrine and the church calendar.”On March 27 and 30 the topic is, “Prayer - Talking to God: Petition, Thanksgiving and Praise.” The April 3 and 6 sessions focus on “Fasting: Self-Discipline and Self-Sacrifice.” The theme of “Giving - Time, Money and Service” concludes the series on April 10 and 13.
The Sunday morning session follows the 8am early morning worship service and precedes the main service at 9.30. The Wednesday session follows mid-week communion at 9.15am, but everyone is welcome to attend the Lenten session only. There is no charge.
