Corner Olof Palme and Singaphi Streets, New Brighton
Nelson Mandela Bay, Eastern Cape 6200

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has recently commissioned “The Workplace” and “Matrix…cc” to do an inventory of the Metropole’s Heritage treasures. This project is in line with the National Heritage Resources Act of 1999 and includes:

· A Heritage Exhibition

· The digitising of various Heritage information in the NMBM Libraries

· Creating a database of all captured information which could be geo-referenced back to the NMBM GIS database

The project promises to be very exciting and would afford local citizens an opportunity to participate and share their hearts and minds on places of historical value which they believe should be preserved.

An outstanding exhibition under the theme “UBUTYEBI BE-IBAYI – the treasures of Nelson Mandela Bay” has since been organized and will be showcased at the Red Location Museum in New Brighton.

There are some unique and surprising features attached to the exhibition which would certainly prompt visitors to engage on our local heritage in a more meaningful manner.
