Valentine Day Jewelry Show February 14, 2009

Freshwater pearl, faceted stones; swirling mounds of metal. Pendant, earrings, buckle, bracelet, bride, custom, cowgirl. This is the work of Jodi Brey, debuting in Perry County at the Commodore Hotel Linden from 10am-2pm on Saturday, February 14.

The Valentine's Day special event , held in the Club Room of the Commodore Hotel, will present a variety of hand-crafted jewelry items priced from $18 to $300. The range of work features "stones and twisted metal that are like little landscapes of themselves" (Door County Living Magazine). Simple pendants made of woven silver and pearl; neckpieces of stone, shell, pearl, silver and gold; and belt buckles made from a range of costume and natural materials will be for sale at the event.

Brey recently relocated to Linden from northeast Wisconsin. There she has been in the artisan jewelry business for over ten years, selling her work throughout the Midwest at galleries and special events. She has done custom work for musicians, fashion designers, brides, and "everyday folks who just want to do something with that single earring, or inherited bauble from Grandma".

The artist developed a line of belt buckles in 2008, which received immediate positive response out of Nashville. The response was so strong that she developed a new design label called "Cowgirl Rose", and relocated the business to Tennessee. Under Cowgirl Rose, Brey has designed buckles for a chart-topping country singer and other individuals in the horse- and country music

Indeed, Brey has a knack for custom design. Alongside the Valentine's event, she encourages her Linden audience to take the opportunity to "think ahead to Mother's Day and graduation". The artist uses basic metal fabrication techniques involving an oxyacetylene torch, wire wrapping techniques, and a variety of hand tools to complete her pieces.
