VERDI REQUIEM

"There are so many Masses for the dead!" said Verdi, "It doesn't make sense to add another one." But pondering retirement following the huge success of Aida, Verdi was so deeply moved by the death of the great poet Alessandro Manzoni that he composed a Requiem more dramatic than any before or since.
