(Haverhill, MA). The Buttonwoods Museum/Haverhill Historical Society will sponsor an historic Base Ball Game on Saturday, August 19, 2006 from 1-4 pm at Riverside Park Baseball Diamond #2. The Essex Base Ball Club will play the Mudville Base Ball Club in a fierce game of vintage base ball, played in the style of 1861 with underhand pitching and no gloves allowed. Learn how to play and then join a team and try it out. Concessions and souvenirs available.
The Essex Base Ball Club has been playing vintage base ball for five seasons and is based in Danvers, Massachusetts, but has players from throughout the Merrimack Valley. The team plays baseball by the rules and customs of the 1861 all around New England. There are many more unique differences between today's game and yesteryear's. Come learn the details and try out the sport.
Sponsored by the Haverhill Historical Society/Buttonwoods Museum and the Essex Base Ball Club. For more information contact the Haverhill Historical Society at 978-374-4626.
