Are you interested in direct service volunteering? Volunteer with Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly!.!
This St. Patrick's Day, Sunday March 15th, 2008, we are having a party for our elders at the Little Brother's offices at 3305 Washington St, Jamaica Plain. We need volunteers to be a companion to our elders and to escort them to a nutritious meal.
Our organization provides companionship to the low-income elderly without family and friends in Boston. We need volunteers for a variety of programs: social events and parties, office work, yard work, On-Call Emergency Services and telephone reassurance calls to our elders. The primary responsibility of the volunteer is companionship for low-income elders living alone in the city of Boston. Our elders are 70 years or older, live on less than $8,000 a year and have little to no friends or family. We are friendly and willing to work around your interests and availability! This is a particularly great opportunity for people who can only volunteer a couple of hours a month.
Requirements:
In order to be matched with an elder person, Little Brothers/Friends of the Elderly–Boston complies with state regulations that requests information from the Criminal History Systems Board pursuant to Chapter 6 §172C that mandates agencies which accept such individual as a volunteer.
Simply, we require volunteers to complete a CORI. As well, the agency also requires two references. If you choose to escort elders in your car to our event, we ask for a copy of your drivers license and a copy of proof of insurance.
For more information, to be properly CORI screened and then matched, please contact Perry at 617-524-8882
If you would like to make a difference in one of our elder's lives, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator, at 617-524-8882 or boston@littlebrothers.org
