Mark Story, Hydrologist for the Gallatin NF will be the featured speaker at this program sponsored by the Madison-Gallatin Chapter of the Montana Wilderness Association.
The Gallatin National Forest (GNF) is crisscrossed with hundreds of miles of old logging roads and user made roads and trails many of which are unsuitable and/or not authorized for vehicular travel. The program will cover a brief overview of the current GNF Travel plan, an overview of and rationale for road closures over the past five years, including photos of decommissioning work, and results of research and monitoring, conducted by the Forest Service and MSU, and future plans. This program should be a great interest to all users of the GNF.
“Wilderness and…” is a series of lectures recommended for area newcomers, families, outdoor enthusiasts and anyone with a passion for wild places and protecting Montana’s wildlands. This program is free and open to the public. For more information, call the President of the Madison-Gallatin Chapter of the Montana Wilderness Association at 585-5338.
