The Burton Mesa Flora is a starkly distinct association of plants only a stone's throw from Santa Barbara. Occurring on unusual soil types in very restricted locations on the Central Coast, it is a great picture of how well natural selection can outfit plants for their specific habitats. Join staff for a day's excursion to two spots rich with botanical interest. An easy (almost no elevation gain) three mile hike in the morning in the Burton Mesa Preserve will be followed by an exploration of La Purisima Mission and their well-preserved grounds. Please bring a lunch, shoes for walking in sand, and the other usual equipment! Online registration available.
