In preparation for the Winter Solstice, join Stephen Brown, author of Shadows of Chaco Canyon to honor the shortest day of the year and celebrate the return of the Sun. Stephen will be joined by volunteers from the Louisville Astronomical Society and Bernheim's Naturalists-in-Training program. To optimize your evening outdoor experience Bernheim's night programs now include a short but essential indoor orientation portion. Frequent program leaders include, Don Spain and his core of volunteers from the Louisville Astronomic Society, as well as Bernheim volunteer naturalists Georgia Bracey and Bob Lenning. These folks will use this orientation to "set the stage" for the evening experience. You may learn how to look through a variety of telescopes, hear a few star stories, or ensure that you are sufficiently "moonstruck" for a lunar lighted moon walk. Dress for the weather since most of the program will take place outside under the moon and stars. In the event of steady rain the program leader may opt for an alternate (but informative) indoor program. Only severe weather conditions (dangerous snows, winds and ice) would cancel the program. Don't forget to call between 3:00 and 5:00 on the day of the program for changes due to severe weather. Advance registration required--502.955.8512.
