Wisconsin Chamber Choir presents Fall Concert November 18
The Wisconsin Chamber Choir will present its fall concert Friday, November 18 at 7:30 pm, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1904 Winnebago Street in Madison. The concert, centered on the theme “War and Peace,” will feature music arising from five particular conflicts: Europe’s Thirty Years War, the U.S. Civil War, World Wars I and II, and the American war in Iraq. The program will include Charles Ives’s Psalm 90, Lee Hoiby’s Last Letter Home, Maurice Ravel’s Trois beaux oiseaux du paradis, Tokuhide Niimi’s Rainbow over Hiroshima, and the final movement of J.S. Bach’s B-minor Mass.
In addition to the choir’s musical offerings, the event will include an exhibition of “spirit boxes” by Madison photographer/artist Andre Ferrella. Ferrella’s spirit boxes commemorate those who have fallen in Iraq and Afghanistan, and are part his ongoing project, The Rise of the Fallen, www.theriseofthefallen.org.
Tickets are available in advance for $14 at Orange Tree Imports, Brown Paper Tickets, or www.wisconsinchamberchoir.org, or at the door for $16. Admission for students is $10.
Founded in 1999, the Madison-based Wisconsin Chamber Choir has established a reputation for excellence in the performance of Bach oratorios, a cappella masterworks from various centuries, and world-premieres. Dr. Robert Gehrenbeck is the Wisconsin Chamber Choir’s artistic director.
