Babylon Falling presents ‘Within This Instituion…’ – New Drawings by C3. C3’s meticulously rendered graphite drawings capture the ethereal quality of the objects, instruments, people, and spaces that exist within the walls of the Institution. Serving as a metaphor for our society in its present state, C3’s Institution encompasses the fear, loneliness, anxiety, depression, and ultimately hope as they pertain to the world around him. The exhibition is comprised of graphite drawings on found file folders, as well as a series of graphite and white charcoal drawings on mint green card stock.

The opening reception will take place on Halloween night Friday, October 31st 2008 from 6-9pm. We will have a very limited edition (24) tshirt featuring C3’s artwork available for sale at the opening reception. There will be drinks and music as always. Costumes are more than welcome! The event is wheelchair accessible. The exhibition will run through November 15th.

About C3

Christopher C. Curtis was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on August 28th, 1981. He took an interest in drawing at an early age and by the time he was in high school he decided to pursue art as a career. After he graduated high school he moved to San Francisco where he attended the Academy of Art University. While taking classes at the Academy he gained an interest in the photo-real style of painting and pursued the same style in his own work. Soon after graduation Chris Curtis won three awards from the Academy, including 2nd place in the contemporary realism category. Christopher Curtis still resides in San Francisco where he is still pursuing his fine art career.

About Babylon Falling

Babylon Falling is a concept-driven independent bookstore with a focus on the spirit of Revolution. In addition to new books, we also carry similarly themed collectible toys, posters, artwork and DVDs, and our own in house clothing line featuring designs submitted by those artists who have exhibited here. The name of the store reflects the owner's Jamaican heritage, where the word Babylon is an all-purpose euphemism for both oppression and those who oppress. The phrase Babylon Falling then, is at once an affirmation and a demand.

Previous shows at Babylon Falling have included Hal Lawrence, Robert Bowen, David Choong Lee, John Felix Arnold III, Emory Douglas, Le Bijoutier, Roger Steffens & Peter Simon, David Ball, and most recently buZ blurr.
