Presented by Nancy Mitchell from Salisbury University. Often writers have a general experience, such as loss, a break up, etc, they want to write aobut, yet have a difficult time "finding a way in". Participants will begin to free write, as if they were writing objectively: scanning the scene, recording small details, such as how the light might look, indicating the time of day, etc. They will also note smell, sound, tactile details. From these notes, the writer will establish a specific location, a point of departure for the speaker. In evoking these details, the writer finds a way to a more rich personal expression of the experience.
Great for all ages, as it again locates the writer's experience as the source of authority and orginality.
